Rock out with your Bock out

Pardon the following unabashed product pimping, but Lobotomy Bock is THE BEST FUCKING BEER I HAVE EVER HAD. E-VER! I spotted this little beauty while strolling through a local Whole Foods Market beer section prior to heading over to my cousin’s house for an impromptu get together two weekends ago. Would you like to know what caught my attention besides the catchy name?

10.8% Alcohol by Volume.

Lemme repeat that, because I don’t think you heard me. 10.8% Alcohol by Volume.

To put that in more layman’s terms, here is a list of some popular beers and their approximate Alcohol by Volume:

Anchor Steam - 5.0%
Budweiser - 4.7%
Bud Ice - 5.5%
Corona - 4.8%
Guinness Draft - 4.1%
Heineken - 5.2%
Miller Lite - 4.2%
New Belgium Fat Tire - 5.3%
Newcastle Brown - 4.5%
Pabst - 4.9%
Pete's Wicked Ale - 5.2%
Rolling Rock - 4.6%
Samuel Adams Boston Lager - 4.75%
Sierra Nevada Pale Ale - 5.3%
Stella Artois - 5.2%
(by way of Realbeer)

Now, the average ABV of bock beers? 5.5-7.5%.

Lobotomy Bock has 10.8%. That's like, ummm...(carry the one...divide by four...what's the square root of 12?) LOTS more than the average bock.

And that’s in one (1) bottle, people. ONE. Believe you me, they are not lying. After one bottle, I was feeling G-O-O-D. Not only that, but it’s incredibly smooth, and goes great with the loaded burger patties that the meat department at Whole Foods carries. It’s brewed by Indian Wells Brewing Co., located at 2565 N. Highway 14, Inyokern, CA. You can check out the site for a full list of the different brews available.

Indian Wells Brewing Co, President Rick Lovett will be at the Whole Foods Market in El Segundo on PCH on February 24, 2008 from 3-7 p.m. pouring and talking about beers, so if anyone is in the area, stop by, say hello, and give Rick a pat on the back for making a kick ass beer. I'll be the guy in the corner trying to make out with a Ficus.

I loves me some bock. I can only imagine how in love I would be with this beer. Unfortunately, there are no Whole Foods anywhere remotely near me, since living in Flint means that anything good for you can be no where NEAR the city. Maybe I'll have to make a special trip down near the Detroit area so I can experience this beer. Hmm...

Wait... Hold the fucking phone...

You can buy beer... at Whole Foods?

Well then.

If you'll excuse me, I'm going to go start packing.

I noticed that you did not include the alcohol content for The Champagne of Beers and that makes me sad.

big deal. It's a DOPPLEBOCK, and 10.5% ABV is very average for a dopplebock. you would know this if you looked at its page on beeradvocate, which is the site you linked to for the bock description.

If you want serious ABV, go get a DogfishHead World Wide Stout or 120 minute IPA, or drop some cash on a Sam Adam's Utopia.

Brite-It would definitely be worth the trip.

TK- The one by where I live has an entire WIne/Beer section with wine tastings and cafe. I don't know if this is common for Whole Foods, or if it's just because I don't live in the Everglades.

DD- Feel free, but that would only make it ok for him to get you a home pedicure kit. From Wal Mart.

Farty Girl - Guinnessy, but you don't need a spoon to finish it.

Yurko- I've never been a big fan of Sam Adam's, but I'll give the Utopia a shot.

Look, Manny, you attracted a genuine beer snob! You're big time now.

Marvo's got nothing on me! No more Pabst Blue Ribbon for THIS guy. From now on it's beers you can only by in out of the way, overpriced niche markets where all the staff wear skinny jeans and look like roadies for 30 Seconds to Mars.

Except for Lobotomy Bock. I wanna take the beer case, fold it into a cardboard vagina and make sweet, monkey love to it.

Dude, beer is like artillery. Sometimes you need the simple .22 action of a PBR, or on occasion, you require the sophisticated sniper rifle of a Hefeweisen like Blue Moon. Upon your suggestion, I went a purchased a sixer while trying not to get all fisty on the tight little aisles of Whole Foods.

Lobotomy Bock is delicious. It's the shotgun of beers.

Dogfish Head World Wide Stout has more ABV, as does the Fort (a lot more) and the 120 IPA. And they're really good beers.

We're planning another get together this weekend, Jo. Maybe I'll pick up one of these along with some Lobotomy Bock, so thanks for the suggestions. I'm new to Bocks, so I'm gonna take it easy lest I end up running through the streets of Big Bear wearing nothing but a smile and snowboots...again.

Gospel - Blue Moon is a white beer, not a Hefe. It's closer to Hoegaarden. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Moon_(beer)

Brite and everyone else - I would recommend calling your local Whole Foods first. I went to El Segundo and had a great time talking to Rick and he let me know that so far, it's only on the west coast but will be expanding soon.

Jonas - I'm glad you had a great time there. I really wanted to be there but my schedule wouldn't allow it. Rick's going to keep me posted on upcoming events and I will definitely be at the next one.

So, the other day, Mrs. Riles asked if I wanted to go with her to Whole Foods (I've never been before).

My response? "Hell yes! There's a beer there I need to try that I saw on one of the blogs I read."

So, had to leave you a comment. Excellent find and a kick-ass beer. It's even got a Newcastle twinge to it. Definitely a new staple in the beer fridge.
